The small, triangular garden planted by the Diamond Hill Historical Society at the intersection of Washington, Grace and Harrison Streets was named in memory of Rebecca Yancey Williams (1899-1976). She was a daughter of Cap’n Bob Yancey, who served Lynchburg as mayor and as commonwealth attorney. One of her books, "The Vanishing Virginian," was made into a movie, which premiered in Lynchburg in 1942. The Yancey residence at 1500 Grace St. (corner of Pearl St.) was demolished in 1975.
